A good fisheye for a good price, August 29, 2009 This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) Acronyms used: DOF = depth of field, FOV = field of view
This lens is a full-frame fisheye with 180 degrees diagonal FOV that is available under a variety of brands with a declared focal length varying between 6.5mm and 8mm - there's this Opteka 6.5mm, a Vivitar 7mm, and a Bower 8mm. I own the Bower, not the Opteka, but from the picture, they look identical - only the Vivitar is different in the exterior finish. All these lenses appear to be made by Samyang, a South Korean company that puts out several mirror and normal tele-lenses, and that more recently came out with two higher quality prime lenses - this 8mm f/3.5 and an 85mm f/1.4 ( Opteka 85mm f/1.4 Medium Telephoto Portrait Lens for Pentax K7, K200D, K20D, and K2000 Digital SLR Cameras)
First, a note on the lens pictured here: the amazon photo probably displays a... Read more

Opteka...The unknown fisheye gem of a lens, November 8, 2009 By This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) Since there are no true photos taken with this lens, I only wish I could down load a couple of my Autumn shots as well as my Pro shots of the rock group "SoFarr" here in Spokane to back up my claims.
This lens is a sleeper, because of the price! When it came to my house, I placed it on my Pentax K10d and took some foliage shots on my street. The angle of acceptance isn't exactly 180 degrees, but it makes a full frame photo on my 1.5 Pentax sensor. I took some photos of my house through a maple tree, and both the leaves that were only 24 inches away, as well as the house 70 feet away were needle sharp! Now mind you...This lens is totally manual in focus and aperture operation, with automatic stop-down aperture when the shutter is tripped.
When Opteka said Aspheric, I was a bit suspicious, but when I took the photos of the Rock group, the true meaning of aspheric came through with shining colors! I layed the camera on the ground facing up, with the self timer... Read more

Lens great, Amazon ... not so much, October 22, 2009 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Opteka 6.5mm f/3.5 Manual Focus Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) The lens is surprisingly good. Easy to focus, tends to shoot a bit underexposed. However, due to Amazon's ludicrous handling of gift cards, I could not get the extra item (digital picture frame) because it wanted to use a gift certificate I'd been holding for my kids to pay for the frame via a credit and then use the credit to "pay" for the frame. Shipping was quick from 47th st. Kudos to them, but Amazon isn't helping the merchant out with this screwball ordering process and it costs the product a star.
