Pro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 Manual Focus, Fish Eye Lens with Canon EOS Mount Reviews
Does a good job - Great value, November 28, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Pro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 Manual Focus, Fish Eye Lens with Canon EOS Mount (Electronics) Had this lens for quite a while now. It is a bit soft, but provides pretty decent images - very usable and its a great value for the price. I use it on a Canon T2i and it provides a very wide image, careful of your feet! I also use it for video and it works great for skateboarding and also for live music performance (when you have enough light). Check out the videos at youtube / faracechannel if you would like to see it in action.
5-star for a $300 fisheye., October 31, 2011 By This review is from: Pro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 Manual Focus, Fish Eye Lens with Canon EOS Mount (Electronics) First off, I'm an enthusiast. Not a professional. I've done a little homework, but I have no degree. Feel free to correct me. Also, I use this with a Canon T2i.
This lens is heavy and sturdy. I have seen complaints that it does not perform well in low light. It does as well as an f/3.5 can. Also, it is a manual lens. In Program or Auto mode, a good enough camera/sensor can compensate the exposure. But as a manual lens, you can use the Av or Tv mode to eliminate this compensation and manually set the aperture. From what I can tell using this lens for 7 months, it works well with gathering light and can often times over-expose.
Personally, the only low light photography I do is bulb-mode/long exposures typically over 15 to 30 seconds (playing with astrophotography.) In this respect, it performs adequately. Just a heads up, this lens works with APS-C cameras. If you were to use it with a full frame camera such as the original 5D, it will show the "walls" of the... Read more
Great Fun Budget Lens, August 17, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Pro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 Manual Focus, Fish Eye Lens with Canon EOS Mount (Electronics) I've used this lens quite a bit and I love it. It's a tad soft but it's not terrible. It's not really the kind of lens where you'll be worrying about the focus that much anyway. And honestly the only time I bother with the focus is when I'm doing an extreme closeup. It is slow (only an F3.5) so it's not the best lens for low light but it does fairly well indoors. Had a lot of fun with this lens, and it can't be beat for the price. Also great for video--I've shot a lot of video with this lens.
